How to Install SmartstatXL
Before You Begin:
- Download the SmartstatXL installation file from the following link: https://www.smartstat.info/download/category/22-excel-add-in.html
- Open the Installer Application: After downloading and extracting the Installer file, run the SmartstatXL Installer application by double-clicking on the SmartstatXL Installer.exe file. Ensure you are connected to the internet (for online installation).
- Handling SmartScreen Protection: If a SmartScreen notification appears, click 'More info', then select 'Run anyway'.
Similarly, if a notification 'Do you want to allow this app' appears, select YES.
- The SmartstatXL Installer application window will appear.
- To start the installation, please choose the directory where the files will be extracted. You can select the default directory or change it to another directory. Click the 'Browse' button to choose the desired directory.
- Next, click the 'Extract and Install' button to extract the setup files and run the SmartstatXL Installer and other utilities.
- The SmartstatXL Setup application window will appear. This window has two tabs: 'Install SmartstatXL' and 'Uninstall & Utility Tools'.
Install SmartstatXL Tab: The installation method can be done online or offline. Start by installing the certificate first, then proceed with installing SmartstatXL.
Uninstall and Utility Tools Tab: This tab provides various utilities.
To uninstall SmartstatXL, you can use the 'Add or Remove Program' feature or directly use the 'Uninstall SmartstatXL' button.
The 'Re-Enable SmartstatXL' button is used to re-enable SmartstatXL and 'Check Load Behavior' to check how and when the add-in is loaded by Excel. The 'Open Extract Directory' button is available for manual installation (see the manual installation section). The Prerequisite button is used to verify the installation of necessary system requirements.
Application Installation
Next, install the certificate first, then proceed with installing the SmartstatXL application.
Certificate Installation:
- In the SmartstatXL Setup application window, select the Install SmartstatXL tab.
- Select the installation method, offline or online.
- Next, click the "Install Certificate" button to start downloading and installing the certificate required by SmartstatXL.
- If a 'Security Warning' window appears asking 'Do you want to install this certificate?', please click the 'Yes' button.
- Wait until a confirmation message appears indicating that the certificate has been successfully installed. It is very important to install the certificate first before proceeding with the SmartstatXL application installation. This prevents the following error message from appearing:
Customized functionality in this application will not work because the certificate used to sign the deployment manifest for * or its location is not trusted.
SmartstatXL Installation:
- After the certificate is successfully installed, click the "Install SmartstatXL" button in the same application window to start the SmartstatXL application installation process. The application will handle downloading and installing SmartstatXL.
- Follow the steps provided by the application, including clicking 'Open' in the 'Open this file' dialog box when prompted to open 'SmartstatXL.vsto'.(see image)
- If the SmartScreen notification appears again, select 'More info' then 'Run anyway'.
- If you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime or .NET Framework, a dialog will appear to install it. Please click Accept.
- You may be prompted to Restart your computer.
- After restarting, repeat the previous steps to continue the installation.
- If you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime or .NET Framework, a dialog will appear to install it. Please click Accept.
- Continue by following the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, including clicking 'Install' in the dialog box asking about installing the SmartstatXL Add-In.
- If the application installation is successful, the following confirmation will appear:
- Once the installation is complete, open the Microsoft Excel application to verify that the SmartstatXL Add-In is correctly installed. You should see a new 'SmartstatXL' tab in the Excel Ribbon.
Manual Installation
If the installation process is unsuccessful, consider trying a manual installation:
- In the SmartstatXL Setup application window, select the 'Uninstall & Utility Tools' tab
- Click the Open Extract Directory button to open the folder used for manual installation
- Navigate to the offlineInstaller folder and run the 'setup.exe' file.
- If the SmartScreen notification appears again, select 'More info' then 'Run anyway'.
- Continue by following the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, including clicking 'Install' in the dialog box asking about installing the SmartstatXL Add-In

Troubleshooting SmartstatXL Installation
Error Message:

If you encounter issues installing the Excel Add-in with the VSTO installer, especially during the first-time installation, here are some solutions you can try:
Solution One (Manually Install Certificate):
- From the extracted folder, right-click on the Setup.exe file and click Properties
- Click the Digital Signatures tab, select Name of Signer, then click Details
- Click View Certificate then click Install Certificate.
- Select Current User and click Next
- Install the certificate to Root Certification Authorities. After the certificate is successfully installed, you should be able to install the SmartstatXL application.
Select Place all certificates .. .> Browse > Select Trusted Root.... .
Click OK, then Click Next
- Click Finish
- Click Yes
- Now, you can retry the SmartstatXL installation according to the instructions.
(Installation Step Using ClickOnce No. 2, Double-click Setup.Exe)
Solution Two:
- Click the Start button in the bottom left corner of your screen or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard, type 'internet options' in the search box. Then select 'Internet Options' from the search results.
- On the Security tab, select Trusted Sites, then click Sites
- Add the site https://www.smartstat.info
Enter https://www.smartstat.info and Click Add then Click Close
- After adding the site https://www.smartstat.info to Trusted Sites, close or refresh your browser and re-download the Installer file.
Uninstall: SmartstatXL Removal Guide
The process of uninstalling SmartstatXL is similar to removing other programs through the Add/Remove Programs feature. However, the SmartstatXL Installer Wizard simplifies the removal process. Here are the steps:
- In the SmartstatXL Setup application window, select the 'Uninstall & Utility Tools' tab
